ON THE GROUND REPORT

Sep 05 2026 07:13 AM: It is the last day of the season and it's not exactly going out with a bang, with showers and strong NW winds and we've had 20mm of rain overnight. It is currently +4.9 in the village and +3 up the top, the forecast for strong NW winds at 55-75km/hr during the day. Colder temps are expected this afternoon, with the chance of the rain turning to snow late this afternoon__________ The meltdown has been quick, the heat, rain and northwest winds during August hammering the snow cover, Snowy Hydro's snow depth reading at Spencer's Creek on Friday was 31cms, down from 90cms two weeks earlier. At this stage Kosi Chair will open to mid-station for the final turns of the season - hopefully we won't have any wind-hold issues._________ It has been short season with a late start and early finish, but it did have its moments during a good 4--5 week period. Not a season that will be remembered fondly and we can only hope 2027 is a lot better. Have a great summer and see you next year.
